Voted Iowa’s greatest purveyors of Irish folk music*, the Black Velvet Band performs traditional and contemporary Celtic songs, original compositions and fresh interpretations of old favourites.

Formed in the 1970s in Eastern Iowa, the Black Velvet Band began as a good excuse for friends to get together, raise a pint or two, and make merry. First playing only at friends’ annual St. Patrick’s Day parties, the BVB has since appeared at many high

profile events around Eastern Iowa, including smokin’ hot performances at Yogafest and Fun Fun Fun in Wyoming, Iowa. 

Fueled by beer—especially when it’s free—the Black Velvet Band generates a reckless energy in their performances, occasionally sending audiences into fits of polite applause, and regularly to the bar for more beer.
