Don't miss them...Sept. 19th!

The band name is taken from the traditional Irish ballad (sorry folks, not the whiskey), and the album name is taken from a misspelling on a road sign near the old town of Hurstville.

Our unofficial band motto is, “As long as we’re having fun, that’s what counts” or “What counts is that we have fun” or “The fun that we can have is what can count” or something like that.

The Black Velvet Band began in Maquoketa, Iowa in the early 1970’s with founding members Rob and Chuck playing folk music at church.  The band has grown to six members — together for over five years — whose talent, friendship and collaboration have taken the music to a new level.

Over the past couple of years we’ve worked to develop our own sound and write some of our own songs.  Hurtsville Rd. Is a culmination of that work and the opening track, What is the Song?, is an expression of that quest.  We are glad to share our music with you.
